Pennisi, formed in the last years of the 19th century, is about 6 km from Acireale (CT), and is located in the territory once occupied by wood of Aci, along the road to Pisa. The Church, built in the late nineteenth century thanks to the personal contributions of priests and brothers Salvatore Mario D’Agata, was opened for worship in the year 1900 and is dedicated to our Lady of Mount Carmel and St. Emidio. Inside there are frescoes depicting the life of St. emidio, the apparition of our Lady on Mount Carmel and of the last judgment. It was elevated to a parish in 1922. A little further downstream in the locality of Pennisi, Fiandaca, stands the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, in the first half of the 19th century, built by the Fiandaca family (from which the area takes its name) on their end use of villani of surrounding vineyards. In recent decades the village has grown as residential area. The economy is based on Agriculture and trade.
