First Sunday of September – Pedara (CT)

Solemn celebrations of late summer in honor of the patroness Maria SS. Announced in Pedara (Ct), the first Sunday of September. The liturgical feast takes place on March 25th. On the first of September, the cannon shots and the sound of the bells announce to the pedarese the imminence of the festivities that culminate on the second Sunday of the month. The youth workers of the two great districts of the historic center, “Piazza” and “S. Antonio “, are used for the preparation of the two Marian chariots that since time immemorial (the first news are found in writings of the late eighteenth century), belong to the local religious tradition. People participate with devotion to the various celebrations especially on the occasion of the offering of the wax to Our Lady which takes place on Friday evening. On Sunday and Monday the simulacrum of the Annunciation, placed on the precious fercolo (built in 1888) is carried in a solemn procession through the city streets preceded by the candelore.

On September 1st, pilgrimage to Calvary to the votive shrine dedicated to Our Lady. The first Sunday of September blessing of the bearers and “ballad” of the Candelore (votive candles) on the churchyard of the Sanctuary, the Saturday opening of the Marian Chariots, the unveiled Sunday of the venerated statue of the Virgin Mary and procession of the art fercolo dell’800 the simulacrum of the Madonna, the fireworks, the lights and the music. The Monday return of the Madonna to the Santuario dell’Annunziata. The following Sunday the “Octave” of the party.

The Sanctuary of Maria SS. Annunziata. The current building was completed between the 19th and 20th centuries with the addition of the two side aisles. The main body, however, dates back to the end of the 16th century. Center of local popular devotion, preserves the statue of the Annunciation and the mortal remains of the Servant of God Giuseppina Faro, a young pedarese who died in 1871 for which today is the cause of beatification. In the days before the feast of Maria SS. The “Novenary” dedicated to you is held there. Inside the Church of Santa Maria della Stella there is an ancient 18th century fresco belonging to the votive shrine that existed even before the church itself.
